Over 10,000 underprivileged individuals to benefit

Thrissur, July 21, 2016: Kalyan Jewellers, India’s most trusted and leading jewellery brand has signed an agreement with Habitat for Humanity India (Habitat) to build 2,000 new homes for low income, marginalized families in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Kalyan Jewellers has committed Rs. 20 crore towards this initiative as part of its endeavours to support the communities in which it operates its business. Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that aims to eliminate poverty by providing shelter to poor families. Kalyan Jewellers is the first Indian corporate to support Habitat for Humanity India’s new initiative ‘Impact 50-50’, which aims to work in 100 districts across India for providing improved shelter and sanitation for the people at the bottom of society’s pyramid.

Kalyan Jewellers and Habitat will build 750 homes in phase one followed by 1,250 homes in the second phase. Over 2,000 families and 10,000 individuals will be positively impacted. The initiative is aligned with the Government of India’s schemes of ‘Housing for All’ and ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ launched by the honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, to build adequate shelter and to make India free of open defecation.

Mr. T.S.Kalyanaraman, Chairman and Managing Director of Kalyan Jewellers said, ”We aim to complete the 2,000 homes over the next 2 years. Through this partnership Kalyan Jewellers together with Habitat for Humanity will provide permanent housing solution to those living in poverty housing. With a multi-year funding from Kalyan Jewellers, the program will impact 10,000 individuals in the next 2 years.
