Wedding is one function where one person steals the attention of the entire entourage in a flash. The bride and her get up becomes the single point of focus easily. Apart from vibrant attires and dazzling jewelleries, one other aspect that completes a bridal look is the makeup. As in any case, the makeup and hairdo varies from bride to bride, region to region and culture to culture. The two primary type of makeup used by brides now-a-days are HD Makeup and Airbrushing makeup.
With HD camera lens focusing on each pore, each blemish and pigmentations, makeup has also upped its game to HD makeup or high definition makeup. This is done manually using brushes and blending brushes by a makeup artist. It forms a very thin layer of makeup and blends easily into the bride’s skin. Airbrushing technique is done using an apparatus that works as a spray gun. It takes less time and delivers perfection. Each bride chooses the technique that suits her. However, caking the face with makeup has gone out of fashion these days.
When we visit the north, most cultures include a Ghungat, a red fabric designed and stitched by the women of the family. This fabric is worn in the form of a veil on top the bride’s head. This veil is accompanied by a grand flowing gown also known as Lehenga and matching chunky diamond bridal trousseau. So the typical makeup and hairdo that compliments this attire is a sleek bun that seats the veil and a shiny sheath of makeup with bold and shimmery eyes, voluminous lashes and a bright red lip that matches the crimson of the Ghungat. For functions like Haldi ceremony, when the near and dear smear the couple with turmeric paste and Sangeeth which involves a lot of dancing, the makeup is done lightly. In case of reception, the makeup is paired based on the attire. Some brides choose western outfits like gowns while some brides sort to Lehengas and even saris. Western style gowns are paired with a simple makeup that highlights the most beautiful feature of the bride’s face.
Down south, the attire of choice for the main wedding function is a grand silk sari. The glimmering gold from the sari and the matching jewels is complimented with the bridal makeup. As for the hairdo, a partition is normally designed in the hairdo to accommodate forehead and hair accessories. These accessories are worn on the back of the head as well as on the braid. Coming to makeup, the glinting base acts as a canvas for the makeup artist to paint on. The eyes and lips are decorated colourfully matching the colour of the sari. For reception, some brides prefer a North Indian look sporting a Lehenga with matching jewellery and makeup while some prefer western gowns and matching subtle makeup and some brides opt for sari as well.
A beautiful get-up remains incomplete without the perfect makeup and hairdo, especially for a bride. This is why choosing the makeup that suits one’s face, style and personal preference is very important.
