Jamai Sashti
04 Jun 2024

As we welcome the monsoon showers, there’s something more exciting on the horizon. With Jamai Sashti just around the corner, it’s time to prepare for fun, feasting, and celebrations.

This cherished Bengali tradition and the heartwarming rituals that envelop it are a testament to the strength of our familial bonds and the deep-rooted importance we, as Indians, place on them. Still curious about this day? Read on!

Jamai Sashti is a festival celebrated in West Bengal in honour of the sons-in-law of the households. On this day, mothers-in-law worship Goddess Sasthi and seek her blessings for the good fortune of their daughters and sons-in-law. Jamai in Bengali means son-in-law, and Sasthi is the sixth day of the month. Hence, the festival takes place in June, on the sixth day of the month of Sasthi. Like any celebration in India, this too is filled with feasts, rituals, and the exchange of gifts.

When it comes to gifts, we have curated the perfect gift guide to make your Jamai Sashti one to remember. As is tradition, the mother-in-law invites her daughter and son-in-law to her home, showering them with love, preparing a grand feast and gifting him a precious piece of jewellery as a symbol of love and appreciation. We suggest a unique piece that speaks to him. A simple link chain is the perfect gift if he isn’t one to accessorize much. Add on a deity themed pendant for an extra bling, to remind him of his unwavering faith.

If your son-in-law loves to accessorize, the bracelet is the way to go. The kada is a great fashion statement for everyday wear, while the half bracelet is perfect for accessorizing at work or if he loves minimalism.

Some men only choose to wear jewellery for festive occasions. For those, we suggest you select the Rudraksha bracelet.

Every man loves rings. So why not try a unique one – a blend of white and yellow gold in a clean and uncomplicated design.

The act of gifting becomes all the more special when the giver becomes the recipient and the act of love is reciprocated. So here are some chosen return gifts for the lovable and cherished mothers-in-law, who are the pillars of our families and the ones who make this festival so special.

The traditional Beloyari Churi remains an iconic and much-loved piece of jewellery for the Bengali woman. If this feels too extravagant, opt for a single Kankan or a pair of delicate Jhumkos to complement her beautiful smile.

Whatever gift you choose this season, remember to decorate it with a heart full of love, appreciation and gratitude. Happy Jamai Sashti!
